She went to college at the State University of New York, Purchase, where she received her B.F.A. in Dance Performance. While she was in university, she sustained a back injury and looked to different movement techniques to help heal her back. It was there that she was introduced to Pilates. Since then she has studied many different dance and movement techniques, including ballet, classical modern dance (including Graham, Cunningham, Limon, Klein technique), and release technique. In 1998, she moved to Chicago to dance with Same Planet Different World Dance Theatre for five years ultimately working her way up to company Artistic Director. In Chicago, she trained and certified in The Pilates Method at the Body Balance studio, and in Gyrotonic® with Matt Aversa. She came to Amsterdam as a guest student at the New School for Dance Development (S.N.D.O.-School voor Nieuwe Dans Ontwikkeling) in 2004. She studied there for six months, varying and deepening her approach to movement and widening her vision of art, dance and choreography. Since being in Amsterdam, she has been working with and teaching Pilates at Studio Annamora and is a regular or substitute instructor for Jelena Petrovic and at many Amsterdam gyms (such as Medico Vision, Club Sportive, Splash Renaissance, and Barry’s Fitness Center). As a teacher she brings precision and humour to the Pilates work, as well as ideas of introducing a physicality that comes from anatomy, intuition, intelligence and practice, so that both novice and experienced students can benefit from an approach to discovering healthy movement patterns through The Pilates Method. Anna also has experience in working with individuals with diverse physical challenges, from basic injuries or pregnancy, to conditions such as osteoporosis or Fibromyalgia. |
