Astarte Athanasiadou

Exploring the classical mat pilates repertoire with different variations and props, Astarti brings students to combine intense physical work with flow, precision and breathing dynamics. Attention is drawn to stretching and strengthening various groups of muscles and learning how to use effectively the deep abdominal force. Alignment and body awareness are essential factors that we try to combine and challenge through the whole hour. The group is working together to achieve a harmonious level, however modifications are always provided to help anyone recovering from personal injuries.

Astarti has been practicing The Pilates Method for many years, starting in Athens along with her classical dance training. She trained to become Pilates instructor with Jelena Petrovic in Amsterdam in 2008-2009. Along with her dance education, she gained broad knowledge of anatomy through Alexander Technique and Axis Syllabus studies. She is currently working as freelance dancer in Holland and Greece.

During this class students will work with series of exercises that focus in strengthening their abdominal, back and deep postural muscles together with lengthening the spine, always in the frame of correcting non efficient alignment habits, increasing body awareness and ultimately controlling their center.
