Breean comes to us from New York City and has a strong dance background. She began her dance training in classical ballet at prestigious American schools including, The School of American Ballet, The American Ballet Theater, The North Carolina School of the Arts, and The Bolshoi Ballet School.
She soon expanded her studies to include contemporary movement. Following graduation from New York University with a degree in Fine Arts, she began her career as a professional dancer. Breean spent a number of years dancing professionally with Ballet Hispanico and various other companies in New York City.
After a serious back injury that limited her professional performing career she began a search for new methods to strengthen and balance the body. She discovered Gyrotonic through a friend and instantly fell in love.
The method allowed her to not only walk again but to understand her body in a whole new light. She then became certified in Gyrotonic, Pilates mat and CranioSacral Therapy (CST I and II). She is trained in Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis, along with a specialized course in Gyrotonic for dancers. Breean taught Gyrotonic for over 10 years at East Village Movements and at her own Centered Motion studio in New York City.
Her main goal in teaching is to spread her love and understanding of movement to everyone regardless of their background and training. Breean has developed a unique teaching method that can be thought of as an integrated movement therapy that anyone can experience and assimilate into their everyday life.
I have been working with Breean for about six months now, and it is fair to say she has taught me more than anyone ever did in regards to movement. During those months I have gone from back pain every other day to systematically waking up with less tension in my back than the night before. Her gyrokinesis classes can be challenging (in a good way) but are soothing as well. She always encourages me to expand my limits, though never pushes me past them. Breean tries to see every person for who they are. She listens to the needs of the people she is working with, and adapts her classes to that. Sofia
